Peace Zone Ireland 2009

What is Peace Zone Ireland

PeaceZone Ireland is a fledgling non-profit organisation based in Ireland. PeaceZone Ireland is now seeking to grow in numbers and strenght.

Our mission is to create expanding space for peace to happen in war zones out of the collaborative work of ordinary people working in disciplined volunteer civilian peace keeping units..

In 2001, the Member States of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first-ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence -

Peace Day - for September 21st. Although the day is being celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people across the globe, the cease-fires are not being observed in conflict-driven areas.

Our mission

PeaceZone Ireland is a pro-active Peace movement whose mission is to develop new strucures which will enable civilians to engage constructively in the advancement of concrete steps towards the ending of conflict, particularly civil war and local terrorism. We are especially focused on advancing the UN call for the achievement of one day of peace worldwide each year. We will seek ways of engaging local leaders and belligerents in civil war zones to stop conflicts JUST FOR ONE DAY and recognize the benefits of peace, safety and the right of individuals and communities to enjoy life without the fear of conflict or reprisal.

Our core objective is to build a trained, disciplined and modern international civilan peace keeping volunteer group. A group which will commit to contiinued learning in modern civilan peace keeping systems and practises - A group which  will maintain itself in readiness for deployment in Peace Zone Formation in aid of

NGO's

on the ground, with consent of all parties in conflict, through temporary truce mechanisms.

We will also promote Peace, and Peace Empowerment, by jointly organising, with local communities and NGO's, small-scale peace gatherings, with the sharing of music and art as the common theme, to encourage local peace making and peace keeping activities, activists and organisations. We are commited to creating safe peace zones for people to develop peace mechanisms regardless of religion, politics, nationality, and status - our job is to develop non-judgeable and stable disciplined and safe civilan peace keeping structures. In so doing we hope others will follow and civilians will find new ways of getting involved in concrete actions which will contain the spread of war and pioneer new ways of achieving solutions to local conflict.

In short, a tight-knit relationship with humanitarian organizations will be built up to provide will provide humanitarian relief to the people in conflict zones through the creation, when possible, of temporary PeaceZones.. We will work almost at village level to win a TRUCE, mind it and even foster music events to raise hope while rehabilitation and relief work gets done. We believe, from experience, that the more people in conflict zones feel the beauty of peace the more they will seek it.

The First steps

On a first scale, since we are based in Ireland we will organise

charity events     at home and gather like-minded individuals to come on-board.

On a second scale, we hope to raise enough funding to build appropriate organisational strucures, volunteer numbers, training, equipment and preparedness to mobilise. Initially our objective is to build to a deployable unit of 150 trained and disciplined volunteers in readiness for short and snappy assignment to One-Day Ceasefire areas (intially) - to enable local truce situations to be managed safely, through the establishment of a safe PeaceZone - enabling essentially a one day ceasefire to become possible and safe.

On a third scale, we hope for September 21st to become a day of celebration of humanity as a whole.
