International Day of Peace 19th of September
In 2001, the Member States of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first-ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence - Peace Day - for September 21st. Although the day is being celebrated by hundred of thousands of people across the globe, the cease-fires are not being observed in conflict-driven areas.

Peace Launch of Peace Zone Ireland - May 2008
On June bank holiday weekend May 29th- June 1st saw the launch of fledgling non-profit organisation Peace Zone. The launch, took place in the Peace Tent at Charleville Castle’s annual World Cultures Fair Day Shakefest, will be gathering a crowd of people willing to become actively involved in progressing Peace on an International level. The weekend itself was a celebration of Peace through Art in all its forms.
Musicians, artists, returned aid workers and volunteers or simply partisans of a better world joined up to “COME CAMP FOR PEACE’’ in the beautiful surroundings of Charleville Castle in Tullamore, Co. Offaly.
A wide range of manifestations took place at the castle on the Saturday.
The screening of Jeremy Gilley’s documentary ‘A DAY AFTER PEACE’ starring the Dalai Lama, Kofi Anan, Jude Law and Angelina Jolie.
A holistic fair and many exotic market stalls will brighten your journey through the launch of Peace Zone as well as an extensive selection of dance and drum workshops such as flamenco, salsa, circus skills and bellydancing.
Towards the end of the day, live music was provided by some of the member artists
